Oh my goodness, friends, it has been so long since I got on here and blogged. Much has happened since my August post. A brief update is that I got a job at a children's retail store (I was unable to afford going back to school, so I've just been working and doing prayer room hours) where I was supposed to be kind of an assistant manager. I worked there from August until last week. Let's just say that it was not a good fit... as well as they kept decreasing my hours and I couldn't afford to live! But God is so good. He told me to take a leap of faith and then He held the net out for me!
So, for the past two months I had so wanted to give my two weeks' notice because I was just done with the job and, like I said, it was not a good fit. But I did not want to be dumb and give my two weeks' without having another job under my belt to go to. So, I've been looking for a job and not really having any luck. I was really wanting something that was customer service oriented because that's who I am. I love customer service, building relationships and serving others! Most customer service jobs are telemarketing positions though and I don't want those, so I kept praying, saying, "Lord, what kind of job am I supposed to work in? I don't even know." The main type of job I was applying for was a reception position just because I'm good at those, and they are semi customer service, but that's not usually a focus.
A couple weeks ago I received the new schedule and found that they had only given me 11 hours! That was the last straw for me. I went on a walk and was hard core praying and really upset and concerned because with only 11 hours for 2 weeks how would I pay any of my bills?! So, I'm saying to the Lord, "Lord, I don't want to be stupid and give my two weeks' without having another job, but I really want to give my notice cause I'm tired of this. I don't like working at a place where I feel totally unappreciated and where they take hours away even when they hired me as a full time worker!" And I asked, "Lord, what do I do?!"
Then, I heard, "Give your two weeks' notice, I have something better for you." I said, "Okay, but I'm going to need confirmation on this to make sure this is truly you." Now, the week before, a friend of mine told me about the salon near my home that was hiring and gave them my number as a recommendation of someone who would be great at the front desk job. I just thought it would be a possibility but didn't actually want it initially because, even though it pays a little more than my other job, it didn't pay much more and I was looking for jobs that pay a lot more.
Anyway, I went ahead and called the owner but had to leave a message and I really thought she probably wouldn't call me back until after I headed to work, so as my confirmation I asked the Lord that if I was supposed to give my two weeks' notice that the owner of the salon would call me back before I went to work. 15 minutes later she called me and she did not even know I had called her!
She also mentioned that they were looking for someone who was very good at customer service. Coincidence? I think not!
So, I gave my two weeks' notice, had an interview at the salon two days later and got the job on the spot! There was almost no question with the owner, she said I was perfect for it and she could tell that I'd be great at it. And that was that. So, I started training at my new job this week and I like it. Also, what was supposed to be only 11 hours this week turned into 30 hours for the week because of training at my new job and because my landlord asked me to work for her a bit extra this week. (Oh, I think I forgot to mention that I started working for my landlord at her storage facility as a second job, too.)
Yep! Now I am the receptionist at a high class salon and I think I am going to like it and I know I am going to be good at it.
The other news is that I had only 1 roommate for the last 6 months and if we didn't find someone by the end of January we were going to have to pay half and half for rent. I've been praying for an awesome roommate that fits well in our home and with us and that we would be friends and we just had someone move in this past week! She's great, I really like her and she seems to fit well. It already feels as though she's been here for a while and not less than a week.
I'll be posting photos of the last several months soon.
